Unless the deeper, reticular veins that feed the spiders are treated first, the spider veins will never be permanently closed. Many older clinicians fail to close these however this practice is essential for good results and is certainly today considered standard of care. These reticulars are frequently invisible without a vein light and are therefore often missed by the treating physician, resulting in the ugly vein reappearing shortly after a sometimes quite painful procedure. Our procedures are nearly painless since we don’t use the outdated “saline” that some of you might have had.
