Lose Weight with Protein Shakes         

To get started, determine a daily caloric level, say 1200 - 1500 calories and always be sure to write down everything you eat. Enjoy yourself with 1 or 2 great tasting protein TMR supplements (Total Meal Replacement) as a complete meal. (visit our Protein Store)

Tips to remember

      One tip to quick weight loss is to try to avoid carbohydrate, especially early in your day. When you eat toast, potato and juice for breakfast your blood sugar skyrockets.                                     The Secrets of Weight Loss , diet information
                                       The secret to weight loss is that there is NO secret, NO magic pills or shots, no Chinese herbal magical potions. 
                                       Here is a simple truth;  To lose one pound you need a calorie deficit of 3500.  I repeat, you must consume 3500 
                                       calories less than your body burns to run its many complex energy utilizing functions.

   Let’s do some math; as a man weighing 250 pounds you burn approximately 3250 calories a day to run your engines and maintain your stable weight. If you can go through your day eating 1250 calories, you will have a 2000 calorie deficit for the day. 

(So for 7 days your calorie deficit is 14,000calories. (2000 X 7 = 14,000) and this should correlate with a 4 pound weight lossa 3,500calorie deficit should deliver a 1 pound weight loss.  Therefore in this example;  7days X 2000 calories per day =14,000 calories per week:  
14,000 calories divided by 3500 calories per pound weight loss works out to 4 pounds for the week, weight loss (ideally). 
(14,000 / 3,500 = 4 pounds)                                       

   It’s about that simple accounting for the calories; however the nutritional considerations get tricky since you must consume and absorb adequate protein, vitamins and minerals. Our supplements keep the calories low enough while providing all the nutrition you need. 
The weight loss described above refers to ideal circumstances.  Certain persons will just not lose weight according to the calculations.  Your bariatric physician (weight loss doctor) may need to determine why your metabolism is blocking weight loss. In my South Florida Weight Loss Clinic I frequently have very obese patients(many over 350lbs) eat 5 TMR shakes and 2 Crisp N' Crunch Bars as all their food for a day. Dieting and Exercise

Diet plus exercise changes you body composition, increasing your ratio of lean versus fat, and you are more likely to get rid of the visceral (cardiovascular disease producing) fat. 

Regular Physical Activity decreases the loss of lean muscle tissue associated with weight loss, and improves cardiovascular & metabolic health. You can lose weight without exercise however Physical Activity is essential to keeping weight off.


A 75 kg person burns 100 kcals walking a mile and at 3500kcal per pound they would have to walk 35 miles to lose a pound. It’s therefore ineffective. However the increase in muscle mass from the walk causes an increase in metabolism (increasing your basal metabolic rate for 2 days) and thus every minute of every day you burn more calories and prevent weight regain.

A single bout of exercise can increase your BMR by 15% for up to 48 hours.

Exercise decreases your appetite by 2 effects:
1. decreased visceral (intestine) blood flow, and 
 2. Increased Catecholamine release, (epinephrine) (that's how Phentermine works); both effects curb your appetite. 

With exercise muscle mass increases, and your muscle becomes more efficient at oxidizing (burning) fat. Physical activity alone results in minimal weight loss but is essential for keeping weight off. People that gain weight back after a diet usually failed to increase their physical activity. Please remember, you're not alone. At any given time approximatly 1/4 of men and ½ of American women are dieting. Exercise with a friend it helps keep you motivated.
Take Home Points
    When dieting you must eat adequate protein to maintain your lean body mass, your muscle, tendon and bone. You must take a good quality multivitamin every day, and women need to take extra calcium (2 Tums a day will work). Remember ladies, make sure you are not pregnant; if you are then any diet is a no-no. It is advisable to take in 1.2-1.5 grams of protein for each kilogram of your body weight when dieting. (these amounts vary considerably depending on the source).
    Be very careful and do your research; low calorie diets may lack adequate protein with high biological value which may cause you to lose lean body mass. Your body requires ample high quality protein to ensure you lose weight, but as fat not lean muscle mass.     
    Scales that measure “body fat” are now inexpensive enough for everyone to have one ($50. or less, check around, I saw a nice one in Target.com for $39.).  They measure your body fat percentage. When dieting we want our fat weight go down but not our muscle.

Example:    If you weigh 225 lbs and you have 42% body fat. Then you have 94.5 lbs of body fat  and you have 130.5lbs of FFM(fat free mass).  (225 X .42 = 94.5) & (225 - 94.5 = 130.5)   
    Proper weight loss requires the fat % and therefore the 94.5 lbs of fat to go down preferentially, with very little loss from the 130.5lbs, the FFM.
 By the way; a 5ft. 10in. fit male under 30years old weighing 185lbs., should have ~16% body fat or ~29.6 lbs of body fat.  The same height and age female weighing 160lbs., should have ~21 % fat or~ 33.6 lbs. of body fat as an approximate normal. You may weigh the same at the same height as someone else however if you have a higher fat percentage, you will look heavier, your waist will measure larger and your health will certainly be more compromised.
